Dr. ONIBON, Nosiru Olajide was born on Friday 13th October, 1967 to the famous Onibon family, Ashipa Compound of Bado - Isale, Epe, Lagos State, Nigeria. His paternal grandmother hailed from the popular Royal EDU family while his maternal grandfather was from the Ogegbo family of Ibowon, all in Epe, Lagos State.
Dr. Onibon started his academic career at the Ansar-udeen Primary School, Epe in 1974, after which he attended Alaro Community High School, Iraye - Oke, Epe. He proceeded to LASU in 1988 for his B.A (Hons) in Arabic Language and Literature and joined the prestigious University of Ibadan in 1997 for an M.Sc (International Relations) from the Department of Political Science. He went back to LASU in 1999 for another Master Degree in Arabic language & literature. Dr. Onibon N. Olajide won the Lagos State Scholarship for Foreign Study in 2006 & 2007 to conclude a Doctorate Degree in Arabic Language Studies from the International Islamic University, Malaysia. To his credit is a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from the Lagos State University in 2012. He is currently a Lecturer and Researcher in the Department of Foreign Languages, Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos.
Dr. Onibon has attended several National and International trainings, conferences and seminars ranging from pure academic to religious, socio-political and economic. He also attended various leadership and management trainings including from the prestigious American Bulletproof Manager Series. He attended the 2 week Summer Training in 2nd/African Language Pedagogy at the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 2012 and Leadership Training in Advance Curriculum Design in Indiana University, Bloomington in 2015. He has a number of academic publications including Dissertations/Thesis, books and articles in both National and International journals.
He is a member of several professional associations including the Nigerian Teachers Council, Nigeria Association of Teachers of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Academic Society for Arabic Language and Literature in Nigeria, African Language Teachers Association, U.S.A, Nigerian Association of Translators & Interpreters, Nigeria Institute of Translators & Interpreters, National Council of Less Commonly Taught Languages, USA and a Fellow of the American National African Language Resource Centre, U.S.A.
Dr. Onibon started his working career as a Marketing officer and later Manager/PRO with the BOS Nigeria Limited, Ibadan. He joined the Michael Otedola College of Primary Education (MOCPED) in 1998 as Administrative Officer 11 and was upgraded 5 months later to Administrative Officer 1. Dr. Onibon was first in charge of the senior staff matters, staff statistics and later General Administration to assist the then Registrar of the Institution. He left MOCPED in May 1999 to join the Lagos State University as a Graduate Assistant in the Department of Foreign Languages. In the Lagos State University, Dr Nosiru Olajide Onibon has been Academic Secretary and Acting Head of his Department, member of Faculty of Arts Conference Committee, Faculty Building Committee, Faculty Office Allocation Committee, Integration Communication Image Making Advisory Committee to the Vice Chancellor, member of the University Senate, Senate Committee on Curriculum and Chairman of Faculty of Arts Seminar Committee.
Dr. Onibon has marks in religious activities; he was pioneer Head Missioner, NASFAT, Epe Branch, 2001 – 2009 and Amuwo Odofin Branch from 2010 to 2014. He left indelible marks at both branches before he was posted to the Headquarters to take charge of the youth affairs. He was the pioneer Director of Training and Education for NASFAT missioners worldwide. He has been member of the Ad-hoc committee of the Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board for 2009 and member of the defunct statutory Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, 2012 - 2015, where modernity had been introduced into Hajj operation.
In his home town, he is a Member of Ideal Social Club of Epe, Epe Development Forum, the prestigious Epe Club and Epe Ogunmodede Club. He is the Secretary, Epe Kingdom Chieftaincy Dispute Committee and Secretary Palace Building Committee. Dr. Onibon is the pioneer Chairman, Alaro-Iraye Community Development Association (CDA) from 2009 till date. As an alumnus of Alaro Community High School, Iraye, he was instrumental to the complete renovation of his alma-mater.
A man of many parts; he also played politics since school days. He has, for instance, been member LASU Students’ Union Parliamentary Council 1990; Hon. Clerk, LASU Students’ Union Parliamentary Council 1991; President, Epe Students’ Union, LASU 1991; President Muslim Corp Members, Katsina State1994/95 session; National PRO/Editor, Muslim Corp Members, Nigeria 1994/95 session; Vice President, Nigeria Students’ Community in Malaysia, 2004/2005 Session; President, Africa Students’ Society in Malaysia, 2005/2006 Session. In partisan Politics, he was a Councillorship aspirant under the defunct SDP; member, Epe LGA Finance Committee for ACN in 2011 elections; Chairman, Epe LGA Ambo Volunteers Campaign Committee.
Dr. ONIBON Nosiru Olajide is an academic, religious, political and community leader. He has traveled wide and he is married with children.
